If your are ever in the Traverse City, Petoskey, Charlevoix Michigan area, you must take this scenic drive thru the Tunnel of Trees. It’s well worth the trip, how often do you get to drive on a state highway with no center line? The scenic beauty of The Tunnel of Trees is superb, especially with a full color of leaves in the fall. As we drove the route we would catch quick sites of Lake Michigan through the trees, log cabins and vacation homes on the other side. The dense trees would beautify the winding road all the along the 27 mile stretch. At the North end of the road in Cross Village was a nice rustic place to stop for lunch called “The Legs Inn”. At the South end there are resturants in Harbor Springs to enjoy.
The Tunnel of Trees, also known as M-119 starts at an intersection with US 31 about four miles (6.4 km) northeast of Petoskey near the community of Bay View. Download the free map toolbar for directions.
